Often a very relaxing experience, Bowen is highly effective at releasing tension, easing pain, adjusting alignment and assisting with sleep. Over 70% of Bowen moves are applied across acupressure and trigger points. Use of this rolling technique requires an in-depth understanding of musculature and point location in the body (human, canine, and equine).
To ensure I had the best possible training, I chose to study Smart Bowen® in Australia under the founders themselves – Lea and Brian Smart. One of the leading programs worldwide, Smart Bowen® offers training for Human, Equine and Small Animals.
Smart Bowen® is recognised by the International Institute for Complimentary Therapists (IICT), the Bowen Therapists Federation of Australia Inc., (BTFA), and the human programs are recognised by the Bowen Therapists Professional Association (BTPA).
Bowen Therapy is a dynamic bodywork technique that can be applied remedially or holistically.
Bowen Therapy is a system of manually applied myofascial stimulation to the body, carried out either singularly or sequentially, within strategically placed locations, with some designated resting periods.
The ‘Basic Bowen Move’ is a transverse soft tissue manoeuvre. These specialised moves are applied at specific point locations over muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, bringing about a window of opportunity to promote homeostasis of the body tissues and systems

The precise location of the Bowen moves correlate markedly with much of the latest research into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridian systems, acu-points and myofascial trigger point theories.

During treatment you remain fully clothed, however, if your clothing is restrictive or too slippery I can work directly on your skin. Ideally, you would come wearing loose clothing, so we can have a chat about what’s going on for you before jumping straight on the table, ready for treatment.
Using different Bowen manoeuvres, I will address the areas that are concerning you, often working over the entire body. If your list of issues is long, I focus on key areas first, with follow up sessions targeting the remaining aches and pains in order of priority. Alternatively, if you’re just after a bit of rejuvenation and maintenance, I can give you an all over body balance which will leave you relaxed and chilled out.
It’s important you have rest days in between treatments (including if you’re pairing Bowen with other therapies) as the treatment continues to work over the next 7 days. Bowen is a gentle modality and can be very relaxing… some say they float off the table!
