About Amy

My Story

Like most young Kiwis, I was very outdoorsy and sporty growing up. I particularly enjoyed competitive swimming and field hockey. From about the age of 15 I started to notice a niggle in my left hip. As teenagers do, I ignored it and kept pursuing my sports. By age 22 it was no longer a niggle, but a full-blown injury which had affected my back too. I spent 10 years trying different therapies, specialists, and remedies, none of which gave any long-lasting relief. Then in my early thirties my Aunty and my sister-in-law were talking about Bowen Therapy. I had never heard of it, but they both recommended giving it a go. Having tried everything else I thought, why not?

Everything changed for me after I started Bowen. Within a month I could sleep at night, I could get back into Surf Life Saving, I could walk without pain. Essentially Bowen gave me my freedom back.

Invigorated by my new body, I wanted to share this incredible therapy with others and help not only people, but animals to find their freedom. So, I started training to be a Bowen Therapist. I was keen to get out of the corporate world that I had been occupying since University and Bowen gave me the opportunity to get out of the Food Technology rat race.

After 3 years of training, I was a fully qualified Smart Bowen® practitioner and instructor, specializing in people, dogs and horses. I started working in Bowen alongside my corporate career, essentially having 2 full time jobs for 6 years! Then in January 2021 I made the move to Queenstown (long overdue) and began practicing in earnest.

I am passionate about helping ease pain and release tension, bringing the body back into balance (homeostasis). I have always loved animals, so being able to help dogs and horses is a dream come true. And I really enjoy giving back by helping others train and study Bowen.

The FLOWpresso suit is my latest tool (one that I love) that helps encourage lymphatic flow, relaxation and improve sleep quality among many other benefits. I trained under the creator herself – Desiree De Spong – in the beginning of 2021 and am loving having the suit as part of my offering.

I love learning and, in this field, there is always much to learn. I enjoy discovering new techniques and therapies that I believe will help my clients because the biggest satisfaction I get from this job is your smile, or a wagging tail.
